Support for events - clinical research
The Norwegian Research Council's programme KLINISKFORSKNING seeks to enhance the knowledge base for preventive measures, diagnostic methods, and treatment and rehabilitation measures through clinical trials. The programme supports events, giving priority to national and interdisciplinary competence-building and network-building activities. The call is open-ended.
Clinical trials
The KLINISKFORSKNING programme gives greatest priority to projects involving multiregional, national and international clinical trials. Within the dental health services, general practice and the primary health care services at large, priority will also be given to smaller-scale studies. These do not have to be multiregional, national or international in character.
No thematic limitations
No thematic limitations have been stipulated in the field of clinical research under the programme. All clinical research projects involving controlled trials on patients of preventive measures, diagnostic methods, and treatment and rehabilitation measures are of relevance, although emphasis will be placed on studies of diseases and disorders that pose considerable challenges to society in human or economic terms.
Multidisciplinary cooperation
The programme seeks to promote multidisciplinary cooperation across health regions and municipalities and will give priority to national and interdisciplinary competence-building and network-building activities to achieve this. Projects rooted in international cooperation will be seen in a positive light.

ERC Advanced Investigator Grants
ERC Advanced Grants allow exceptional established research leaders of any nationality, any age and from any scientific field to pursue ground-breaking, high-risk projects that open new directions in their respective research fields or other domains.
The deadline for Life Sciences Domain is 14 March 2012.
Who can apply?
The ERC Advanced Grant scheme targets researchers who have an exceptional scientific leadership profile and who have a track record of significant achievements appropriate to their field(s) of research in the last ten years. The applicants should be exceptional leaders in terms of originality and significance of their own research contributions and pursue ground-breaking, highrisk research that opens new directions in their respective research fields or other domains.
What kind of projects are financed?
The proposed projects should tackle pioneering and far-reaching challenges at the frontiers of the field(s) addressed, and involve new, ground-breaking or unconventional methodologies, whose risky outlook is justified by the possibility of a major breakthrough with an impact beyond a specific research domain/discipline. The main evaluation criterion is scientific excellence.
Funding and duration
Normally, one can apply for up to € 2.5 million (in some circumstances up to € 3.5 million) for a period of up to 5 years.

European Research Council - Synergy Grants
The European Research Council (ERC) has launched its first ever Synergy Grant Call for Proposals with deadline 25th January 2012.
Aim
Synergy Grants will enable small groups of two to four Principal Investigators (PIs) and their teams to bring together complementary skills, knowledge, and resources, in order to jointly address research problems at the frontier of knowledge.
The peer review evaluation will therefore look for proposals that demonstrate synergies, complementarities and added value that could lead to breakthroughs that would not be possible by the individual PIs working alone.
Who can be financed?
ERC Synergy Grants will fund projects for groups of between two and four PIs who are excellent researchers, to undertake frontier research of their choice. As for existing ERC schemes, the PIs can also apply for funding for team members. The PIs can be from different disciplines or can be working in the same/similar fields, and they can be based either at the same or different institutions.
Budget
Each Synergy Grant can be up to a maximum of EUR 15 million for a period of up to six years. The budget for this pilot call is EUR 150 million, meaning that about ten proposals are likely to be funded.
All important documents connected to this call are to be found on the Participant Portal.
